Daihatsu released its Mira Cocoa, a new minivehicle targeting women that features Japan’s first back-view monitor.

The back-view monitor is an LCD screen roughly the size of a mobile phone screen installed in the left corner of the rearview mirror that shows camera

Two-wheel-drive models with a continuously variable transmission get 23.5km per liter of fuel, qualifying as eco-cars eligible for a 75 per cent reduction in auto taxes.

With a simple, warm design targeting women, the car has the Cocoa logo on the front and is the only current model the automaker offers without its characteristic “D” mark.

Daihatsu had an industry-best 35.2 per cent share of minicar sales volumes in July. It is looking to remain in the top spot by increasing its number of high-fuel-economy models that qualify for eco-car tax breaks. For the Mira Cocoa, which is priced from 1.05 million to 1.43 million yen (US$11,113-15,135), it is targeting monthly sales of 3,000 units.
